HERMANN VASKE is a director, author, and producer. As a director, he has worked with actors such as Dennis Hopper, Harvey Keitel, Udo Kier, and John Cleese; and as a producer, with extraordinary human beings such as Nelson Mandela, Stephen Hawking, and the Dalai Lama. His films have been shown in Cannes, SXSW, and Palm Springs, and have won numerous awards including the “Grimme-Preis” and the special award of the Venice TV Festival.
His film Why Are We Creative? premiered at the 2018 Venice Film Festival with world-renowned artist Marina Abramovic who came to Venice to support the launch. It won the Hessian Film Award and the Award of the New York Film and Television Festival. His next film in the creative series, Why Are We (Not) Creative? (Grand Prix Red Dot Award), premiered in 2021 at Filmfest Munich. It was followed by Can Creativity Save the World?, which had its premiere at Filmfest Munich in conjunction with the “Why Are You Creative" Exhibition at Literaturhaus Munich. The films were shown in almost every country in the world.
Furthermore, Hermann Vaske’s World Creativity Project was nominated for the 2024 Innovation Award at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. As part of the World Creativity Project, he has published several books, including The Dialectic of Creativity (Hatje Cantz) and Why Are You Creative (Seltmann Publishers).
The Art Directors Club of Germany honored Hermann Vaske with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. Vaske’s new film Creativo Paradiso (featuring legendary a directors Alejandro Jodorowsky and Wim Wenders, as well as Michael Madsen and German Arthouse actress Lilith Stangenberg) will be launched in 2025 in conjunction with an exhibition at the Goethe Institute Paris.
